Take a trip with me down memory lane, as I recall the bygone days of old Macau, the Portuguese colony in south China that has since become a monument to mammon
Great article and it certainly brough back memories. As you say, Macau used to be a sleepy retreat following a hectic week in Hong Kong, not sure that's the case nowadays. However, had many good times there in the 90s and 00s, staying nearly always at the Pousada De Coloane - wonderful !
Thanks Ben! Yeah it was definitely a chilled getaway from busy HK. I loved the Pousada De Coloane. Don't know if you ever visited, but Lord Stow's Bakery was also always a treat.
Hi Simon, yes, we visited Lord Stow's in the square many times to enjoy the egg tarts and those fabulous pork pies which they later introduced - a tourist attraction in itself ! We knew Andrew reasonably well and were saddened at his premature passing - he was a fairly constant fixture at the Pousada and also Nga Tim Cafe in Coloane. Happy days !

Such a lovely little slice of old Macau that was. Will have to go back sometime.
